Does anyone with Addison’s take prednisolone?

My daughter has Addison’s and currently takes Hydrocortisone. She’s been asked if she would like to take part in a research trial where she would try taking prednisolone instead. I’ve done a quick google, and there seems to be some positive research about prednisolone for Addison’s, and perhaps in some areas of the UK, and in other countries, this is the norm? Has anyone got any thoughts, knowledge or experience of this?

I'm on it for adrenal insufficiency (due to long term prednisolone) 🫠

I'm not going to sugar coat it, the side effects are absolutely brutal and I've had every one listed on the label, including steroid induced cushings syndrome.

I've heard that the one your daughter is on isn't as 'heavy' on the body as pred, but I've not actually tried both to compare.

There's a few fb groups for Addison's and adrenal insufficiency that I find very useful. If you're not already on them, then have a look. I've found lots of information on them for different meds etc that's really helped me manage my condition.

Thanks for sharing your experience, my daughter hasn’t got side effects of the other one right now. I’ll have a look at the Facebook groups.

I have Addisons and am on Hydrocortisone. However, I have done a lot of research, and the general consensus seems to be, if you are tolerating HC, and are happy to take the doses throughout the day then stick with it. Pred is great if you tend to forget taking your meds, as you usually only take one dose a day.

i echo what ThegargrnofEden says though, definitely check out the groups on FB, there is some great info on them!
