Sandals to wear to the pool and on holiday with arch support?! shoes for plantar fasciitis?

Last year when we went on holiday I wore flip flops with no support or went barefoot for most of the day. Upshot was that by the end of the trip my plantar fasciitis was so bad I could barely put my foot on the ground when I woke up in the morning. (Admittedly I was also doing too much running.). Anyway, DH pointed out that lots of people seemed to have footwear that had arch support but was made out of rubber / plastic so didn’t matter if got full of sand or splashed at the pool of whatever. No idea what brand they were. Any recommendations from mumsnetters?

I have Fit Flops, they are great for my plantar

I wear flip flops from FitFlop - they look like Haivanas but have arch support. Another good brand is Archie’s but they have a funny triangular bit by the toe post that I didn’t get in with although friends love them. Other swear by Crocs and they do flip flops too. Another good brand for plantar fasciitis is Vionic.

Thanks so much for the speedy replies! Knew the collective wisdom of Mumsnet would have some ideas!

Vionics. My podiatrist says they are the gold standard.

I get them on special offer.

Archie’s

Another vote for Archie's

Birkenstocks. They and cockroaches will survive the apocalypse.

I have the same problem, a couple of days in flip flops and I regret it. I just wear socks and trainers. Take flip flops to pool and just wear for least time possible.

SomethingDifferentBloomed · 28/07/2025 16:57

I was also going to suggest Birkenstocks, they make a “beach” version of a couple of the styles which are pretty waterproof.

ThatGreenFawn · 28/07/2025 17:22

Crocs sandals have been brilliant for my plantar fasciitis.

museumum · 28/07/2025 17:24

I have the plastic Birkenstocks for this and they’re great.

elliesmummy19 · 28/07/2025 17:35

The EVA Birkenstock Gizehs are the most comfortable thing I’ve ever worn.

Mine are going strong after 20 years. Sandals, not cockroaches.

Queenage · 28/07/2025 17:37

Oofos are fabulous

Mimilamore · 28/07/2025 17:52

Archie’s….I first saw them in Australia and my daughter and her m in l swear by them. Got myself some slides, the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn…

Lndnmummy · 28/07/2025 18:25

I have a couple of birkenstocks for this and they are older than ds. Still look brand new.

duckduckgooseduckagain · 29/07/2025 18:21

I had plantar F too and dr said Birkenstocks were the worst thing to wear on your feet. I liked Fit Flops.

MrsMoastyToasty · 29/07/2025 18:25

Skechers archfit.

Vitrolinsanity · 29/07/2025 18:36

I have to agree re Birkenstock. They nailed my PF within days. I would’ve never believed it if it didn’t happen. Even the plastic versions I had for the pool are amazing.

I write as someone who would have worn Birkenstock only at gunpoint previously.

Helpmeplease2025 · 29/07/2025 18:38

Archie’s

Ihitthetarget · 29/07/2025 18:41

Another vote for fit flop flip flops. Really comfy.

And Archies sliders are great (not tried their flip flops though).

Would never go back to normal brands now.
