Hi all how lomg did it take you to start seeing an improvement whilst being on iron meds and folic acid? What were your symptoms before also? I'm having severe anxoety/depression, breathlessness, weakness brainfog/derealization (my scariest symptom) palpitations etc

Folic acid- about 2 weeks to not feel like I was dying. I also had that derealisation feeling which is what made me get help.

Iron took longer.

To be honest I've only ever really fully got over that light headed feeling by eating a higher protein diet. That took my ferritin levels into the really good range. The GP said they were the best she'd ever seen. I'd historically always been borderline to low.

Edited to add, it's worth checking out your TDEE for your height and weight, and making sure you're eating at maintenance level, especially while trying to get your iron stores back up, and ensure you are getting enough of all the main nutrients. That helped me significantly to feel more human!

Don’t forget to take vitamin c with your iron (1000mg)

I use those fizzy vitamin c tablets made into a drink and just use it to take all my vitamins

@milkandhoney2 thankyou. I've been taking my iron with a full glass of orange juice daily. I'm currently taking sodium feredetate ( 27.5mg/5ml) as ferrous sulphate and fumarate made me ill, this ones better, more gentle on my stomach. I've been told to take two 5ml a day xx
