Removing packing from an abscess

I had an abscess lanced and drained from my bum cheek yesterday and have to remove the packing tomorrow. They said to have it done at my surgery but I’m wondering if it would be better for me to do this at home (with DH help) so I can soak it in the shower and stop/start as needed with the pain. I don’t need it re-packing. I remember removing some packing from a Bartholins cyst years ago and I did it in the bath, still hurt like hell though.

Let the nurse do it - they also need to assess the wound and make sure it's looking ok and there are no concerning signs. You can take pain meds before you go to help
