Advice after Appendectomy

HappyDaisy13 · 27/07/2025 09:31

Hi all, apologies I am new so not sure if in right thread etc.

I just had an emergency appendectomy and am looking for general advice for healing/diet etc. I am going on holiday in 2.5 weeks (cleared with 3 surgeons and 2 Dr’s)

I will be back for my endo lap soon and my GB is to come out so I can’t eat certain things. I am just wondering if anyone else went abroad after surgery and any healing tips ♥️

I had complications after, and I’d say keep moving gently, it was much harder to get going again if I sat down to ‘rest’. First thing in the morning was always bad, after a night just lying there doing nothing.

Thank you so much! I’m terrified of gaining lots of weight lol but just glad to be alive

I had a ruptured appendix and peritonitis two years ago and recovered in a couple of weeks, I agree with @NoCommentingFromNowOn though about keeping moving.

You'll start to feel better quite soon, I was much happier once I could have a shower, wash my hair and was a bit more mobile.
The first 48hrs were horrible and I felt like I'd been hit by a truck.

But keep on top of the pain killers and antibiotics and gentle movement.
Take all the sympathy that's offered in the first couple of weeks! Everyone at work were really worried about me.

Yes I’m a week post op, still wakening wit lots of anxiety and a bit down. Pain is ok just really sore tummy/wounds. My discharge was a bit of a mess and they stopped my antibiotics… told me just to take paracetamol/ibuprofen lol.

I was in for my endo pre op a few days ago and the nurse said they should’ve gave me stuff but I was just glad to be home! Thank you for your advice x
