Please give me some advice on my fixed retainer.

Fixed retainer broke on one side, tooth is aching and I think moving. I don’t want to get it fixed, rather get it removed or leave it. Will the ache stop or cause any damage?

I rather not have it even if teeth move as I’ve had it 20 years and it’s hard to clean. I went to the dentist and she saw something near the root of the tooth that aches on the xray, looked like a white fuzz. Could this be because of the tooth moving?

You can have your fixed retainer moved, that's your choice. You might experience some relapse in the position of your teeth over time, this might prove to be mild, or more pronounced. You could have removable, night time retainers made to negate this concern.

As for the white fuzzy thing, it's difficult to say. What ever it was, it's not the cause of your tooth movement. If your dentist took an x-ray, they presumably discussed the result with you?

The best thing you can do is arrange a review appointment with your dentist and discuss your concerns with them. You won't get any meaningful answers from mumsnet I'm afraid.

A dentist
