Tooth with temporary filling - pain

I'm waiting for an onlay repair for a cracked molar. The dentist has put a temporary filling over it but every time I accidentally bite down on it I get a jolt of pain. Is this normal? I've got to wait 2 weeks until my next appointment, it's only been 3 days and it's really annoying.

Yes to a point. The pain stems from the crack which hopefully the final crown will alleviate. If it gets significantly worse try to get in for an emergency appointment as the crack might have got deeper. Good luck x

@catlovingdoctor She's filed it down and covered it with the temporary filling so it's ready for the onlay rather than just leave it cracked. I had less pain before it was filed down tbh.

If it's already sensitive then further treatment might naturally increase that sensitivity. The temp is a relatively weak material so won't be holding the tooth walls together the way the final crown hopefully will. Keep an eye on it but if the pain changes in profile dramatically definitely return.

Thanks, I'll give them a call tomorrow as I'm now getting pain every time I have a hot drink.

Try and get some oil of cloves to dab on it. It sounds a bit old fashioned but it really does relieve tooth pain.

I'm in exactly the same position; I had a temporary filling on Tuesday. I've got an appointment on Tuesday for the prep. work for the crown and I'm hoping she can do something about the pain.
