I've just had a course of it, no side effects whatsoever. But no history of IBS or similar.

HarperStern · 23/07/2025 11:35

I had to take time off work as I couldn't leave the bathroom. Hope you don't have the same reaction - stock up on kefir snd other probiotics!

AnonKat · 23/07/2025 11:36

Im taking it out the minute. I have IBD but im also pregnant. My stools havent changed yet. Maybe tey an a probiotic aswell

littlemissprosseco · 23/07/2025 11:38

You e been prescribed the Flucloxacillin for a medical reason. You can’t just choose not to take it!!

Coffeeishot · 23/07/2025 11:40

I feel a bit sick but never been sick it wears off after a day or so, i have bowel issues too and it has never given me the runs.

Chouradanilova · 23/07/2025 11:47

I have IBS. I’ve had quite a few courses of flucloxacillin (for cellulitis), I’ve never had any side effects.

sparklychair · 23/07/2025 11:48

It put my DH in hospital for two weeks with a rare side effect - shut down his liver. When I took him to A&E they were convinced he was an alcoholic but their tests were negative so they were stumped. He slowly returned to normal in hospital after stopping the antibiotic.
OTOH when my daughter was prescribed it a couple of years later she was fine! (I was on tenterhooks, though 🙁).

Clearinguptheclutter · 23/07/2025 11:48

I've had it quite a few times and I never recall any side effects

SleepyTraveller · 23/07/2025 11:51

Had it several times. It smells funny and has an annoyingly frequent dosing schedule, but I've never had any other effects (except for infections clearing up, obviously!)

ExponentialDelivery · 23/07/2025 11:54

Yes the dosing schedule was a PITA

FernwoodRydal · 23/07/2025 22:25

I've just finished a course. I felt slightly nauseous but otherwise fine. Side effects do depend on dose though ... one time I had to have it IV, followed by a much higher dose, and it was horrible. However, I had to have the IV because the infection had gone too far for oral antibiotics to get on top of ... so the moral is, take the tablets!!

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 23/07/2025 22:30

Never had it. Metronidozole, on the other hand, I found hideous.

greengreengrass3 · 23/07/2025 22:41

I’m just coming to the end of a 7 day course of it and have had zero side effects.
Just found the schedule a little annoying and something I had to plan my day around.

BashfulClam · 23/07/2025 22:45

I have ibs and took it, itgave me a ‘flare up’ (IYKYK) the first day. The next day I was back to normal.

Ihaveoflate · 23/07/2025 22:45

I've also just completed a course and found it nigh on impossible to schedule around meals.

It made me feel quite sick and gave me sore guts but it wasn't debilitating.

Edited for typos

CharlotteFlax · 23/07/2025 22:58

The indigestion and heartburn it gave me was far worse than the pain of the abscess it was meant to be treating!

ExponentialDelivery · 23/07/2025 23:02

The pharmacist told me one on waking, one mid morning, one mid afternoon and one before bed. But I forgot to take them sometimes at work so I ended up having them over 6 days instead of 4. Annoyingly that took me into 7 days before I was due to give blood so I had to cancel that and can't get another appt till Sept.

Oh I forgot about the empty stomach scheduling thing, that was a pain!

Supersimkin7 · 23/07/2025 23:30

Eat yoghurt during and afterwards cos it kills your gut bugs (which exit as diarrhoea).

DemonsRocks · 23/07/2025 23:37

I imagine it depends on the dosage. I was on an IV pump for 24hrs a day for months. Had diarrhea throughout.

Eggybreadwithnuts · 23/07/2025 23:40

My DS cant have this, gave him the runs and made him feel sick.

Sub2Mumma · 23/07/2025 23:52

Take with plenty water and with food to stop the queasiness

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 24/07/2025 04:15

It made me throw up within a few minutes.

Babyenroute · 24/07/2025 04:54

I’m on it at the moment. Antibiotics usually gives me the runs but no side effects.

TheSweetestHalleluja · 24/07/2025 17:55

I usually get diarrhea on antibiotics but never did on flucloxacillin for some reason.
I try to drink actimel or eat bio live yogurt too.
