Hi , is anyone getting insect bites , last weekend I had a spot appear on my arm which I presumed to be a bite , the following day the tops of my legs had itchy bites and they keep popping up on my legs
I’ve been to the Dr as over the counter meds didn’t touch the itch , she doesn’t know what they are but prescribed stronger antihistamines and steroid cream this was on Thursday , I’m still itching today and new ones are popping up , I’ve been covering my legs wearing linen trousers

my oh has a few bites but not as many as me I don’t know what to think bed bugs ? Scabies ?
Ive been stripping the bed putting linen on a hot was & hoovered the mattress

ive attached a photo of the spots they’re driving me mad

Yep I’ve been getting loads this summer! Don’t think bed bugs as they’re normally in a line and I’ve checked and can’t see any. Driving me mad!

they look like gnat bites, iv been getting lots too and iv seen the gnats. Iv been putting on avon skin so soft and its helping overnight to stop the bites

Yes I’ve had a lot this summer.

i find anti histamine cream helpful, as well lanacaine.

Omg we stripped the bed , hot wash on linen
got the hoover out and I found one carpet beetle alive , omg I’m mortified , we have a vispring mattress which is wool 😳
husband bought bed bug spray this morning I’m not sure this will be effective , I feel like launching the mattress

Looks like flea bites.

Trixie2012 · 19/07/2025 20:38

we found a carpet beetle under the mattress and it was alive 🙈. We’ve hoovered thoroughly and sprayed with carpet beetle killer
I feel sick but apparently they are very common

DH gets a lot of bites, but he is out where biting insects lurk a lot more than me

Henrihetta · 19/07/2025 20:50

@Trixie2012 was it on the mattress itself? Have you got a picture 🤣

It doesn't look at all like bed bug bites. It looks exactly the same as the biting creature that we have in our garden. Without fail, its something which must hatch at the end of July, and I'm always bitten horrendously throughout August. I dread it!

Originally, (5 years ago, when I first got the bites when we moved house) I panicked thinking I had bedbugs - so I sterilised everything. I even changed all our mattresses, and double wrapped them with bedbug preventing covers. But I've realised it's definitely coming from the garden. I'm still not 100% sure what it is - but I presume midges or chiggers.

The weekend when they appeared did you go in garden or out to the park or places like that, they particularly bite in the evenings. I remember a friend went to one of those open air cinemas near some lakes and got absolutely bit to death

Hi Magnir, I had been to the cemetery and when the first bite appeared I thought that was it
However the spots are still popping up days later I have never had spots like it on my calf’s , ankles and up my thighs ,very itchy

its no laughing matter as these beetles can be in so many house holds and not caused by being dirty

Yes I think that is definitely a carpet beetle larvae. Apparently they don’t bite but the hairs can be irritating.

Trixie2012 · 19/07/2025 21:58

I’m full of spots on my legs and new ones are appearing we done a thorough blitz today & will do the same tomorrow, we’ve never had anything like this before but our bed is a Vispring so wool , the Carpet isn’t wool which is something they feed off

They dont bite but the thought of them crawling around 🙈
