THREADWORM I'm going insane!

Found child had threadworms 3 days ago, still could see a worm lastnight (day 2) everyone treated. Shower morning and night, their clothing/pj's pants washed daily, they are wearing pants for bed also. Childs towels and what i use to wash body with washed daily. Bedding changed every other day, and wiping round bedroom (theirs not mine, do i need to change my or will it be ok, hasn't been on my bed since first clean) hoover bed and carpets everyday. Using vaseline on their bottom and sudocrem. Blitzed the house after first treatment, washed settee throws, cushions. Cleaned bathroom and kitchen surfaces (daily). Wiped stairs bannister. Cleaning the toilet after every use and handwashing like crazy. But have I done enough? I feel like I'm going insane and now I've seen things about toothbrushes, I did soak in hot water after initially finding out but now I've seen about replacing but that wouldn't be cheap (oral b). Its driving me insane honestly and I don't know what to do with myself! Some positive outcomes would be great to hear.

You really don't need to clean that much. Just vacuum the bedroom and wash the bedsheets then treat the threadworm. I did a second dose at 2 weeks and they were gone. This was 3 years ago and they've thankfully not returned!

wipe all the door handles. You only need one egg to start it all again. And freeze then wash all soft toys.

I know this is the most obvious question ever, but you HAVE treated them with medication, right? Make sure you follow up on the recommended day so the remaining eggs can’t breed.

Also flip the mattress.

reslly you’re doing too much just treat again in two weeks and let their setting/school/nursey know so they can ask other parents to treat their kids. Cos that’s where it’s come from!!

HostaCentral · 19/07/2025 09:24

Once you've all taken the pills, you only need to change bedding and towels once. Keep washing bums every morning, and changing knickers and towels daily. I use small bidet towels for bums, less washing. Hand washing is most important. Honestly everything else is ott. Take second dose after two weeks and change all bedding again.

I've already wiped down all door handles and light switches, threw some things from their bed away and washed some. My problem is I can only control what's happening in my house and not at school. Trying my best but its absolutely making me go insane.

Treated everyone straight away then did everything else after that

I hope they go and don't come back. I treated the household straight away and have been cleaning and washing ever since 😭

Edited

I've been using small towels for bottom but then I still feel the need to also wash the towel thats been used anyway. I don't think the situation is helped with me have ocd. I just feel like im not doing enough. Horrible things.

OP they are not life threatening, in two weeks time all will be ok when you take the meds for a second time. It’s not about control. You’ve done enough.

just let the school know so they can send a note out too to parents.
