Worried FTM and coldsores around baby

Feeling anxious today as my MIL has just developed a cold sore. We have been staying with her the last few days and she may have been kissing the baby in my absence. I suspect she has. He’s 4 months old.

There was nothing on her face yesterday but the sore developed this morning. We have spoken to her again about no kissing since.

I know there’s probably nothing that can be said / done now, but just needed to write this down somewhere. Does anyone have any reassurance or thoughts they can offer? Thank you.

I get cold.sores and kissed one of mine o the head at that age before realising I had one coming up. I called 111 in a panic and they said as long as I wasn't kissing on the lips it should be fine. They weren't concerned and it's not dangerous like it is for tiny babies. I have never kissed my kids around the mouth. Like you say, there is not much you can do other than watch her like a hawk if you think there is a risk.
