Hand hold for breast lump

I found a lump in my breast yesterday. I’m 49 years old and day 20 of my cycle. It’s hard but does seem to move and is central and close to my nipple but painless. I have a GP appointment tomorrow. I’m absolutely paralysed with an anxiety. My husband was diagnosed with throat cancer last year so I have a lot on my plate. I know no one can reassure me on here but I’m annoyed with myself as I have got out of the habit of examining myself as I get anxious so I have no idea how long I have had it. Now I feel such guilt as my 2 teens have gone through so much that another diagnosis would be just awful. Anyone else had a painless lump at my age and been ok?

I have had breast cancer. I hope that you are one of the lucky ones who fall inside the 80% who are referred to breast clinic who do not have breast cancer. Always best to get it checked out. Benign lumps in boobs are very very common.

I’m a bit younger but I found a lump earlier this year at 9 days postpartum. As I was breastfeeding the GP wanted to see me twice to see if there was any change due to that before they referred me.
What helped me was knowing the referral didn’t necessarily mean it was breast cancer but the referral was absolutely essential to rule out cancer.
Also I kept telling myself that 8 out of 10 women go to that breast clinic appointment and it’s nothing. I pray it all happens quickly for you and it’s nothing so you can put this all behind you.

Yes. Was a cyst. I was just about your age.
They drained it, determined it was benign, and that was that.
Hope same or similar for you OP.

last year I had a firm large lump in my breast. I was also petrified (40 years old at the time)
I had a brilliant appointment where the consultant had a feel, I had a mammogram and then an ultrasound which confirmed a cyst, it took about 20 mins max for all of that to happen. The sonographer drained it for me then and there (painless) and it’s not come back since.
I won’t say don’t worry as I know that’s impossible, but the chances are small that it’s something scary, so try not to let it consume you.
