Can this heat cause fall in BP?

For the past few days during the heatwave, I've been feeling lethargic and tired. My BP is usually on the low end, average 110/65, however over the past few days it's been 95/60. Is it normal for the heat to reduce bp this much? I am drinking normally. Age 41, low ferritin/Hb, not sure if any of that is relevant...I don't feel dizzy, just tired

If you're drinking normally then maybe try increasing your fluid intake and see if that helps? I'd say it's probably pretty normal for it to happen though - likely losing fluids from sweating plus your blood vessels near the surface dilate to get rid of heat which will have an effect.

Maybe try some electrolytes (or a teaspoon of sugar, good pinch of salt and squeeze of lemon in a pint of water).

Are you routinely monitoring your BP? If so, probably best to discuss with the person who requested it.

Yes, it’s normal - easily remedied by increasing your fluid in take - not just taking the normal amount. You could also try electrolyte tablets in your water, has been brilliant for me - I have very low BP and postural dizziness.

@MassiveOvaryaction tbh no one told me to monitor it, I have terrible HA. I've also noticed my bp falls more depending on where I am in my cycle (also have some peri symptoms).

@OpalMaker I will definitely try the electrolytes. Have you struggled more in this heat?

Yes, I’ve had to leave work twice (I’m a nurse) because my BP has been so low I could barely stand.

The solution for me is very much hydration + electrolytes + compression socks on the worst days. I can drop the compression socks after a day or two of intensive hydration, but I have to keep it up or I start getting dizzy and seeing stars every time I stand up.

I have POTs, but also take an SNRI and an SSRI - which impact on thermoregulation and hydration.
