Is this a bullseye rash?

No idea what bit me. Could have been a tick, but I didn’t see it on or come off.

But this looks a little bullseye rash like?? I have a telephone appointment with the doctor later today (there weren’t any face to face slots) and wondering whether to keep or cancel.

What do you think?

Is this a bullseye rash?

Yes keep your appointment as you can see some swelling around it too

dairydebris · 01/07/2025 09:09

No, it doesn't look like a bullseye rash.

They are all different tho. If you're in a Lyme area and / saw an attached tick consider prophylactic antibiotics anyway.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about Lyme from that rash alone.

OldieButBaddie · 01/07/2025 09:10

A bullseye rash usually has a darker bit around the outside.

This looks more like a swollen bite to me, but not all lyme rashes present as bullseyes so worth getting it checked out if you live in an area with lyme

My husband got it from a tick bite in Richmond Park, he also didn't see the tick and the local GP didn't recognise it, it was only once he got referred to a specialist for the rash which by then covered most of his lower back that it was diagnosed! He took antibiotics for 2 weeks and was fine (do not go on lyme forums etc as you will convince yourself you are dying whereas in fact everyone I know who has had this has taken the ABs and been absolutely fine!)

rainbowstardrops · 01/07/2025 09:13

I had something similar looking years ago. I was bitten overnight while I slept but the GP thought it looked like a horsefly bite. Be careful if it is that because mine became infected and I started to lose some flesh. LOTS of antibiotics but thankfully, it eventually cleared up. Still have a round scar to this day.

NapoleonsToe · 01/07/2025 09:26

Doesn't look like a bullseye rash to me, looks like an inflamed insect bite. That said, if the inflammation is spreading, it's worth keeping the appointment.

Seeline · 01/07/2025 09:29

Looks like an allergic reaction to a mozzie bite to me - mine always look like that. They are not infected, just need an antihistamine.

It doesn't look like a typical bull's eye rash.

gamerchick · 01/07/2025 09:33

Even if it isn't id want it checked out.

IsItTheBlackOneOrTheRedOne · 01/07/2025 09:46

It’s not a typical bullseye but it might still need antibiotics if it’s an infected bite so def keep the appointment. Also it could be an allergic reaction, so in the meantime I would try taking an antihistamine and applying ice for a bit to see if it goes down at all.

CherryRipe1 · 01/07/2025 12:52

Looks like a mozzie bite to me. Heat up a teaspoon under really hot water and put on it, it will cook the protein in the bite & ease it. Repeat as necessary. Some people click a lighter flame on then off and use the metal bit on the bite.

Bullseyeyee · 01/07/2025 15:43

It’s gotten a little worse. I ended up cancelling my doctor appointment and kicking myself now! Pharmacist didn’t know, but gave me some steroid cream.

Does this slightly worse version look bullseye tick-ish??

I always get these after horsefly bites

myplace · 01/07/2025 15:48

Why do you think it’s a tick?

I get like that, very red and inflamed. Have you taken antihistamine and used the hydrocortisone and an antihistamine cream?

Because that’s basic self care. After that, if it’s getting worse, is when you need an appointment.

FlakingFlonks · 01/07/2025 15:50

Not a medic but that looks like a spider bite

And this! Beasts.

OldieButBaddie · 01/07/2025 15:51

It actually looks a bit better to me, the area of redness seems smaller!
I still think you need to get it checked for Lyme though

dairydebris · 01/07/2025 16:17

Still doesn't look like a classic bullseye rash.
Do you have reason to suspect Lyme?
Was there a tick attached?
Is there lots of Lyme in your area?

LadyQuackBeth · 01/07/2025 16:22

Try taking an antihistamine, that will take the swelling down if it's a reaction.

I always react like this to insect bites, although strangely not tick bites, it doesn't look like a bullseye rash and I wouldn't be too worried unless you've been in a very tick heavy area or have reason to be worried.

Bullseyeyee · 01/07/2025 16:44

I didn’t see a tick at all, it’s on my mind as my dog gets them (despite treatment!), so I often wonder if I missed one and it fell off and went for me next. Or I had been walking through long grass. Perhaps being a little paranoid!

But that’s a great suggestion - so a bullseye rash won’t change if I take antihistamines and the cream but other bug bites will? The pharmacist gave me a hydrocortisone cream! Am about to put it on now.

No, it looks like an inflamed bite.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/07/2025 16:46

You need to take oral antihistamines as well as the hydrocortisone cream.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/07/2025 16:49

Get some ice on it too.

CatsorDogsrule · 01/07/2025 16:50

It just looks like a fairly big reaction to a normal insect bite. The sooner you treat, the sooner it responds. You should take some antihistamine as well as using the hydrocortisone.

Edenmum2 · 01/07/2025 16:55

I literally had this yesterday! It looked exactly the same as yours, actually even more bullseye like - but today all the redness in the ‘big circle’ has gone and it’s just clearly a nasty mozzie bite. Itches like hell but mine is defo just a mozzie. See what it’s like tomorrow and get it checked if it’s still presenting as bullseye

It's not presenting as a bulls eye , just a big red reaction. Bullseye doesn't mean circular, it's a very specific reaction and worth googling images .

echoing Others that said horsefly bite.
