Faecal incontinence after bowel movement

Name changed as it’s embarrassing. I’ve had this problem for around 5 years. After a bowel movement I always soil my underwear no matter how well I wipe/wash etc. I usually go every second day and on the day in between there’s no leakage at all, it’s only immediately after I’ve been. I manage it with panty liners as it’s only a small amount but don’t want this forever. Had a forceps delivery 20+ years ago so unsure if related. I’d like to understand it a bit better before plucking up courage to consult my gp.

Sorry @CadburyTwirl I don’t have any suggestions save to say do please speak to your GP. I do wonder if the infrequency is part of the problem, a bowel movement every other day is a long gap.

Thanks for replying @Keepingthingsinteresting. I don’t know. I’ve always been every other day. I read somewhere anything between 3 times a day and every 3 days can be considered normal.

Speak to your GP asap
every other day plus this problem may be a sign of constipation.

i had a family member who was told to take senokot every night for a few months to see if that helped and it did. Not completely but was a start.

def see the doc tho for advice.

Are you perimenopause/menopause age? It Is actually quite common to have incontinence symptoms start or worsen during menopause and it can sometimes be related to a delivery even if you have had no problems before. Equally sometimes it’s not. See your GP and ask for a referral to colorectal. I struggle with the same so I know how embarrassing it is.

Thank you @Ciderisrosier yes, I’m post menopausal

If you're only going every other day I would think you are in need up upping water and fibre, it sounds like piles of it's only marks on your underwear. GP is a good shout.
