Stopping prednisolone and side effects.

I’ve been on a ten week course of prednisolone starting on 50mg a day for a week, and reducing it by 5mg a week. I finished the course on Thursday morning (was down to 5mg a day for the last week).

Since yesterday afternoon I’ve been feeling very tired and sleepy and a bit nauseous. Could this be down to stopping the steroids? I know you can have effects if you suddenly stop them, but I had a proper taper down.

It could be, yes. Prednisone is a very powerful steroid as you know.
you may have stopped them too early for whatever the underlying condition was. Alternatively it could just be normal adjustment, or something completely different but coincidental.
If in doubt call the Doctor / Consultant who prescribed them.

Sounds like you need to get advice from 111 today. Stopping from 5mg may be a bit quick & you might need a slower taper but it’ll take them a bit more info to know that. (Doi fwiw, doctor)

I've tapered steroids before, specifically prednisolone, I always felt extremely sick and dizzy the first day of each taper. Speak to your gp as going from 5mg to nothing may be too quick for your system and may need to slow the last part down.

It is probably the effect of coming off the steroid. I've felt similarly coming off budesonide. Give it a few days and take medical advice if you don't start to feel better soon.
