I've had pain and hearing loss in both ears since the end of a cold about 3 weeks ago. I'm really struggling to cope, the pain is so bad it keeps me awake at night. I'm finding looking after my son really hard with the hearing loss. I've been to the GP twice and have had 2 different antibiotic ear drops but the pain isn't going away. They don't seem to concerned even though I've told them how much I'm struggling and I'm not sure what to do to get to the bottom of what's going on. Has anyone else had something similar? I'm so low with it all

Oh that doesn’t sound normal… por you, ear pain is horrific.
Not all ear pain comes from ear … it can be referred from other areas head and neck.
Could you go to walk in clinic ?

I had a horrible ear infection earlier on this year which affected my hearing - had antibiotics and steroids and the only thing that helped in the end was a steroid nasal spray. You have my sympathy because it's horrible - hope you find something that helps soon.

Thanks guys! I think I might need to go to the out of hours gp tomorrow .@HollyIvie interesting, I have a steroid nasal spray so might need to give it a go!! I'd honestly try anything at this point.

I would go back to the out of hours doc. The doc told me I had to take the steroid nasal spray for a while - think it was about 5 weeks but not sure. Yes it took ages to go. I believe he said the tube between my ear and my nose was all inflamed so needed something to target this area.

Managed to see someone today. They gave me oral antibiotics and a steroid nasal spray. Took a swab too. Felt they took it much more seriously so fingers crossed on the mend soon! Thanks for all your sympathy and advice ☺️

@Hopingandwaiting2021 hey OP, did you ever get to the bottom of this at all?

I’ve had it for a week now. Both ears, in agony. Oral antibiotics not touching the sides and can’t cope with the pain and hearing loss 😭

The steroid nasal spray and the last antibiotic did the trick! Just needed endless persistence about going back to docs. I've since been diagnosed with eustachian tube dysfunction which is why the hearing loss was happening for me. The spray took a while to work. I so hope you start to feel better soon, it's totally miserable. Good luck x
