Citalopram with omeprazole

A friend has just been prescribed omeprazole and an increase in citalopram to 30mg. Within a few days she is experiencing nausea and is now worried that the combination is the cause. The NHS website and others support this theory. As usual she can’t get an appointment with the gp. Any thoughts.

  • Yes, there is a potentially significant interaction.
  • Not everyone is affected, but a dose of 30 mg citalopram + omeprazole should be reviewed by a healthcare provider due to the risk of heart rhythm changes.

@Didcotdolly . This is right. You just need to google it

I was taken off omeprazole and put on lansoprazole because of this.

I stopped taking omeprazole due to the nausea. Don’t take it with citalopram.

She’s actually on lansoprazole not omeprazole. My mistake, I thought they were the same. So should be ok?
