Hormones , how do you monitor what’s going on? Test hormone levels?

I’ve been reading a lot lately about hormone levels, obviously there are so many resources out there now about hormones around menopause/ perimenopause, so much about hormones in relation to weight management/ vitality and so on.
But I wonder how you get an accurate picture of your hormonal situation , given that hormones fluctuate a lot?
I had some bloods at a gp a while ago, nothing stood out specifically and it was quite an ask to get the gp to do any bloods for vague symptoms that may / may not be hormonal.
gp appointments are like gold dust, so how do women analyse their hormonal situation effectively and decide on a best course of action for instance hrt? Do people go private, or are there home blood tests or something that you buy? Or is it just symptom based?
I feel I’d benefit from some sort of hormonal oversight and intervention .

I'm on HRT and have never had blood tests to check hormones. They went on symptoms.

Blood tests are unreliable as hormones fluctuate daily in peri menopause. GP's can prescribe hrt on your symptoms alone.
