£1000 for a deep cleaning from periodontal specialist

Hi everyone. I’ve been told by a periodontal specialist I have moderate to advanced gum disease and need a deep cleaning and I was quoted £2000 for 2 sessions of deep cleaning and then see how things go, so it sounds like I would need to pay more about that.

I thought my NHS dentist could refer me to the specialist treatment from NHS but after half a year wait I asked about it she said the referral is only for advice, not treatment so she didn’t even do the referral. Shocking. She even said people who can’t afford private may end up losing their teeth. How sad. She suggested if I can’t afford the private then I can have the deep cleaning from NHS which cost about £70 at least there is something.

I know I need the treatment from the periodontal specialist but the cost is honestly stopping me from moving forward. I feel stuck. I know it’s important for my health, but it’s so expensive that I just can’t bring myself to go through with it right now. Any advice or personal experiences would be truly appreciated.

Thanks so much in advance!

That seems very expensive. I have slightly receding gums and have some gum issues, I see a hygienist at my local (private) dentist every three months where I have an injection to numb one quarter and a have a deep clean, I pay around £120 a session (45 minutes). Unless your gum disease is very advanced with swelling and bleeding a good hygienist should be able to assist without spending thousands.

Deep cleaning is really expensive. Can you afford to travel overseas to get a cheap cleaning/treatment?

It happened to my friend, and once you get the examination you get X Rays and you may find about bone loss, lose teeth and then some treatments to fix that are way more expensive. My friend is going to South East Asia to get all those treatments done, she is from there originally so it's a bit easier for her but look around the countries near where you live.
