Anyone solved bleeding before period?

Hello,

First of all, I have talked to my GP and seen a gynaecologist over my periods (I’m 42) because they ran for 10 days - 5 of heavy spotting and then 5 of extremely heavy bleeding and flooding.

They ruled out anything sinister and I have Tranexamic acid for the heaviest days, which has massively improved my life.

However, I still get such heavy spotting for 5 days before my period that it is like having a 10 day period - and my cycle is just 20 days start to start. So I can’t have sex for half my life (I know some people do but I don’t want to if I am bleeding) and I have to think about pads or tampons so much.

Has anyone fixed this, with diet or lifestyle changes? I am not overweight but I probably eat too much junk and drink slightly more than recommended. Has anyone had any success
improving their cycles or is this just the way it has to be for me?

Thanks for any advice
Flissty

Did you have a laporoscopy or hysteroscopy done?
if not push for one.

Why a laparoscopy? I had one in my teens for unrelated reasons, but there’s nothing to investigate now - I’ve had an internal scan to check for anything unusual and there’s nothing. Thanks

Take the combined pill, build up to taking it continuously and you'll have very few and very light periods

Thanks - sorry, should have said but forgot - I seem to react very strongly to birth control. I was on Yasmin and it was fine but I was told I should come off after 40. I moved onto the mini pill and had a huge mental health reaction, genuinely felt suicidal for the first time in my life. Came off it and two weeks later my mental health was fine.
I wonder if there’s a different pill I can safely take over 40. I should talk to my gp again, thanks.

What reaction? Did you cobtinue for 3 months, in which time side effects iften settle down. Try Slynd, which is new.

Thanks - but I couldn’t have safely persevered for 3 months, I had a massive mental health crisis with suicidal ideation as a direct result of that medication. I know it’s safe for the vast majority women but not me, unfortunately

I have pure resentment for this ridiculous bleeding thing and mine are probably average in quantity but drag over 7 days.
They genuinely do take the piss. It should be that you bleed when you're pregnant. Not that you have to bleed every month when you're not pregnant. Just an absolute joke on being born female. 😡
