Back spasm for 12 days… what else might help?

I’m seeing the physio and I’ve seen the doctor but every time it seems to improve it goes again. It’s my back and hips really. I know that I have a mild scoliosis in my upper back, which throws my hip out, and that’s something I need to address, but I have to get this acute episode under control because I can barely walk. They’ve said it’s not the hip joint and the pain is definitely muscular, which is good, but it’s excruciating.

I can’t take anti-inflammatories because of chronic gastritis. I’m using paracetamol and voltarol gel and last week I was on low dose diazepam but I couldn’t function on it. I’ve had one week off work but went back this week, which was bad but I cannot be out of action any more - I’ve got some really important stuff on next week. I’m peri-menopausal and the GP gave me oestrogen gel to try but I don’t know if I should start that before I get this under control.

Anyway, anyone got any good advice for me?! At the moment I can’t sit for long, even. Moving around helps but if I have to sit or drive then I can’t walk properly afterwards.

My Dad has usually been prescribed diazepam for major back spasms - just a short course usually seems to get it under control.

Thanks. I took it for about three days and was asleep almost all that time! Then I felt groggy as hell for a couple of days. I’ve got a few tablets left but was really hoping not to go back on it and I’m really not sure it helped after all that anyway.

Google Tom Morrison on you tube - honestly amazing strength and rehab for back issues and in particular dealing with a flare up. You probably need to try icing the area which will reduce the ‘reaction’ and calm down all the pain signals. I’ll see if I can find the link
!

How are you getting on? Im going through the exact same thing, its worse first thing in the morning withing in minutes of being out of bed my back goes in to spasm and im having to stand for up to 40 minutes until it settles enough to allow me to sit down. It's draining. Im on my second week of being signed off work and im pulling my hair out.

I am so sorry you are going through this, I have back, hip and knee pain and it’s so debilitating.
I was prescribed Gabapentin when I had a dreadful spasm over New Year and it’s really helped. I don’t know if that’s appropriate in your case.
i hope you feel better soon
