Hello

I have this mole under my armpit, it's been there for as long as I can remember but me being ignorant didn't think anything of it, the other day I saw it and thought I need to get it checked, I have appointment next week, I've seen melanoma miles online jagged edges, bigger than 6mm which mine is which now has me so worried, has anyone else had an odd looking mole that turned out to be ok?

Get it checked by your GP, and put your mind at rest

Yes on my back. The GP got his magnifying glass and said it was caused by sun and was harmless but offered to remove it if I found it annoying

I had a really big funny looking mole on my stomach which had grown quite a lot. The first GP I saw looked at it closely and said it was fine and keep an eye on it, I was still worried and saw a different GP around a year later and she immediately referred me to a dermatologist. The dermatologist wasn’t too concerned but said the only way to know for sure was to remove it which I had done. I had to wait a couple of months for the results but it was totally benign.

The only way to be 100% certain is to have it removed so don’t be afraid to ask to be referred to a dermatologist, I wish I had done that in the first instance rather than wait a year.

I will try and find a picture of mine for you.

As you can see, it was quite big, with uneven border and different colours. It’s most likely yours will be totally fine OP but always worth getting check out.

You may be able to send a photo to the GP surgery. The skin clinic at my local hospital asks for photos too rather than seeing the patient first.

BTW my stepfather had melanoma and it did not look like that. But get it checked. Just send a photo, it’s not worth the worry.
