DS2 (nearly 18 months) high temp for 3 days, calpol controlling it though, seems to sometimes have a headache (putting both hands on his head) he has done nothing but slept since Tuesday evening, he is drinking fine and eating little bits, poo is a bit sloppy but not majorly so, weeing fine.

No way of getting a doctors appointment so it would be out of hours this evening.

BTW, not expecting a diagnosis over the net, just wondering if the doc will tell us to do anything different to the calpol routine?

If he's had a temp for 3 days I'd take him in. Or ring NHS Direct for advice. I'd be a bit worried about the sleepiness, but then DS is mega active so it would be a big change.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 23/05/2008 15:28

Really? Bugger

How high is the temp?

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 23/05/2008 15:29

Yes he is normally as active as any 18 month old, he is coming around a bit once DS1 is home from school, still not right though.

yes, given thats its bank holiday weekend....better the out of hours doc tonight than on a sat or sunday etc if you get worried later. i tend to play safe i guess.

GrimmaTheNome · 23/05/2008 15:29

Can he tell you if it hurts and if so where? Just wondering from the 'hands on head' bit if he has ear ache. In which case docs would be useful for antibiotic.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 23/05/2008 15:30

I haven't taken it with the thermometer, he get's febrile convulsions, so I only take it when he is excessivly hot (to save my sanity!) he has just been feeling from warm to very warm.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 23/05/2008 15:32

It is definately his head he is holding, no ear tugging or anything, it is around the back of his neck.

He can't tell me where it is hurting, and the head holding isn't all the time, just 4-5 times a day.

I know you have had some stress lately NJ, do you think it's rubbed off on him, sounds mad but I have seen it happen with my DC.

Maybe worth calling nhs direct, they are really good.

MinkyBorage · 23/05/2008 15:33

deffo docs with headache

EffiePerine · 23/05/2008 15:34

if he is holding his head near his neck, get him to the docs. Better safe than sorry.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 23/05/2008 15:34

It may have done, but since the scan everything has been hunky-dory and happy.

Everytime I've rang NHS Direct they always say take him to doc's!

Looks like we will just have to take him.

OK, thanks everyone

EffiePerine · 23/05/2008 15:36

Good luck

ELR · 23/05/2008 15:36

no i wouldnt

CJMommy · 23/05/2008 15:37

Contact the doctors and get him seen! He doesn't sound too well! It may be nothing, in which case the doctor can reassure you...However, it may be something! I always say, 'If in doubt, get the Doc out' and I work in health care!. Hope he's ok and you have a restful BH x

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 23/05/2008 15:58

It's OK have warned DH all he's getting tonight is a visit to the out of hours doc's

I'm not too worried, as in he isn't showing signs of anything in particular being very wrong, he just isn't 100%.

cheesesarnie · 23/05/2008 16:00

i agree with others get him seen or ring nhs direct.

EffiePerine · 24/05/2008 07:22

Is everything OK NJ?

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 24/05/2008 11:21

He is still the same.

We rang the out of hours service, nurse rang us back about 6.45, went through a load of stuff, and said basically give him regular calpol, and if his temp get's any worse, or if he stops drinking, then to ring them back. No worse today, but no better either....

Poor little thing, he is so fed up of it all now, he doesn't know what to do with himself when he is awake.
