Really intense abdominal pain

I was sitting in a cafe chatting to a friend and sudden really intense pain came on - very low on right hand side. Never had anything like it, couldn't actually talk through it. Friend drove me home and was in agony, then after about half an hour it disappeared. I've not had a pain like this before, was very sharp stabbing pain. I was intending to come straight in an call the doctor but it's just gone.

Has anyone experienced anything like this, what could it be?

i get these around ovulation time. Are you about half way through your cycle?

Boco · 23/05/2008 14:16

No, have period. I also get ovulation pain, felt like the same place but 1000 times more painful, literally doubled over and feeling sick.

Could be trapped wind. Feels like you're being knifed to death & can take your breath away

avenanap · 23/05/2008 14:18

Do you have pain now? It could be an ovarian cyst, you really should see a doctor.

Boco · 23/05/2008 14:20

No, too low for trapped wind. Pain gone now but just feel a bit shaken by it.

assume you can't be pg?

Lulumama · 23/05/2008 14:21

appendix?

Boco · 23/05/2008 14:21

Well I have my period now, although it was late. But didn't stress about that as was not likely.

full peiod?

NotABanana · 23/05/2008 14:22

I have had that but it hasn't lasted half an hour. I just put it down to my baody being an a**e.

avenanap · 23/05/2008 14:23

I think you should go to the doctors anyway. It could be a number of things but you really should get this checked. I wouldn't leave it.

Tutter · 23/05/2008 14:23

i mean, was it a full (normal) peiod?

Boco · 23/05/2008 14:24

Have got a hospital appointment this afternoon so if it comes back I could get it checked there.

I'm going abroad on Monday and it'd be tricky to see an out of hours dr for a pain that is no longer there.

OP posts:
Boco · 23/05/2008 14:25

Yes think so Tutter, only second day, seem normal.

i had an ep, so am always wary of stories like this

if it were me i'd have to take a test, just to rule it out

esp if you weren't avoiding it iykwim

avenanap · 23/05/2008 14:28

I'm not a gynae expert, but you could do with an ultrasound scan to make sure that

A) it was not a cyst (could get nasty if you leave it)

Or:

B) it's not an ectopic pregnancy.

Seriously, don't leave it. It may not be anything serious but I always work with the nasties first to eliminate them. Other mnetters may give you different advice though but I would definetly see the GP.

Boco · 23/05/2008 14:33

If it comes back at all I'll definitely get it checked out. And may do test just in case.
feel like a medical freak atm. Thanks for advice.

Tutter · 23/05/2008 14:35

good. thank you

aitch and i are pobably esponsible fo half the sales of pg tests in the uk - we both panic about possible ectopics

but i will be happie when you come and tell us it's not that

avenanap · 23/05/2008 14:36

ok. Just one more thing, how fast is your pulse? Any dizzyness?

Boco · 23/05/2008 14:38

I do have a test, will drink something and do it. Would it def be positive if it was that then? I don't think it's likely, but the pain was so bad that's the first thing I thought of.

OP posts:
Boco · 23/05/2008 14:38

I feel fine now, but at the time was faint and felt sick.

OP posts:
avenanap · 23/05/2008 14:39

I would go to the GP.

Tutter · 23/05/2008 14:41

would most likely be positive, yes

but ectopics can be odd - they failed to diagnose mine over 3 hosp visits and 2 scans

Boco · 23/05/2008 14:44

Can't go to GP now without missing a hospital procedure I've waited weeks for (skin biopsy) but will go and ask in a&e if it comes back.

could be a twisted bowel (friend had this, she thought it was appendix but no)
