Hey I have a low iron reading and b12 at the hospital there my b12 was 233 now I know that’s not really low but is considered low. I have been feeling so tired after a full nights sleep etc then hospital sent a letter to the gp do u think they will start giving b12 injections. Just fed up feeling this way

Injections aren’t needed unless you lack intrinsic factor and your B12 isn’t massively low at 233. Try an oral B12 supplement.

You need intrinsic factor blood tests to see if you can absorb B12 or if you have pernicious anaemia. If it’s an absorption issue it will be injections for life, they may suggest oral replacement if no absorption issues. It depends on your surgery. Ours would give a loading dose but then tell you to buy oral if IF blood test normal.
You will feel miles better if you get your iron up, are the hospital requesting GP prescribe or are they arranging an infusion?

I was on b12 injections previously that stopped due to Covid does that mean I lack intrinsic?

My b12 is 147 and still won’t give me the injections I’m having to pay privately

Oh really I’m sorry to hear that it maybe goes by area etc

Not necessarily. If you stopped injections in covid time and couldn’t absorb, your levels would likely be on the floor by now and not as high as they are.

Are you vegan or vegetarian? What is your diet like?
Do you take Omeprazole or similar?

Lalawy22 · 15/06/2025 16:27

Omeprazole Occasionally no not vegetarian diet is kinda normal tbh fruit veg meat and the odd take away
