Today I found out that I do not have the BRCA gene mutation and I’m so pleased. My mum died when I was 21, she was my absolute best friend and the loss of her in my life impacts me every day. She had the BRCA gene mutation, because I was so young when she died I didn’t really think about testing myself, we discussed it briefly but then she passed. I now have two daughters of my own, (2yr and 2weeks) and the thought of not being here for them is terrifying, and also knowing whether they could have inherited the gene. So I decided to test for the gene privately via Check4cancer. My Dad also died on bowel cancer when I was 29 so they did more expansive testing due to this. I found out today I do not have any mutations in the genes tested.
I have close friends but I don’t think they would really understand how much this means to me, as they don’t really understand the impact of my mum passing has had. Anyway I wanted to share the news somewhere!
I hope this post doesn’t come across in the wrong way
