Bells Palsy recovery

JazzyBBBG · 11/06/2025 16:45

Currently 2 weeks in from an episode of BP. Whilst visually my recovery is good I have been told I have lost some hearing (got to have more tests) and I'm just soooo tired. Wondering if others have had the tiredness this far on and how long it took to feel "normal." Also if you lost hearing did it come back? Thanks

I had it over 20 years ago when I was aged early 20's. I had no hearing loss and was pretty much recovered after about 3 weeks, but can't recall full details now, sorry. I hope you are feeling better soon.

DH had an episode of bells palsy about 2 years ago. It took him a few months to feel fully back to himself, visually he recovered quicker but the tiredness lasted a lot longer. He didn't have any hearing loss. I hope you feel better soon.

I didn’t lose my hearing but I did have weird ears, really sensitive to sharp noises for several weeks. I definitely felt really tired, I think partly due to the high dose of steroids.

I’m 6 months post bp , should have said. I still have some lingering ‘drag’ in my face, and my blink reflex feels slow. I’ve been having acupuncture which I think has made a bit of difference and my face looks brighter but I actually don’t think it will fully recover now.

My DH had Bells Palsy as a side effect of a COVID jab. It seemed to take forever to completely clear.

JazzyBBBG · 11/06/2025 17:00

@thenewaveragebear1983 did you feel tired even after you finished the steroids? (I finished them at weekend)

husband had this recently ( still has) symptoms started late January, tiredness probably only properly went in the last couple of weeks, still not got full movement back in his face, has some eyesight damage and waiting on hearing tests. Sorry it can take a while.

JazzyBBBG · 11/06/2025 17:03

@Gizlotsmum gosh it's the gift that keeps on giving isn't it.

I had it about 25 years ago and still have some facial droop. It's worse when I'm tired. My eye on that side waters a lot too. Eyesight and hearing are, and always were, ok.
I hope you have a full recovery. It's a horrible thing to have.

Gizlotsmum · 11/06/2025 17:10

It is, although he can’t currently snore so that is an upside! He is also finding he is forgetting things ( more so at work, he always forgot at home) ;)

This is similar for me. I only had partial paralysis as one side of face stopped working but didn’t droop.

if you’ve only finished steriods at weekend then I do remember feeling wiped out when I came off them. Had a really low lasting 1-2weeks. All the best with your recovery.

JazzyBBBG · 11/06/2025 17:17

@Gizlotsmum oh that's interesting I wonder if I have stopped snoring 🤣

Thanks all for the well wishes.

I know a man who had BP about 10 years ago. He went for a course of CACI facial treatments which helped him recover from the facial droop quite quickly. I can’t remember him saying anything about hearing problems.

JazzyBBBG · 11/06/2025 17:48

@donotaskmesillyquestions yes I have some caci treatment booked in a few weeks. Was advised would be too sore to do straight away.

How are you getting on OP?
I am still waiting for my referral to ENT as I have not fully regained movement in my affected side. Day 1 was December 20th so I am coming up to 9 months now.

i have had acupuncture (8 sessions now) and I definitely notice a difference after the treatment, but I think I still have a lot of inflammation in the area and this is causing a weird tight feeling across my face when I scrunch my eyelid. It extends down into my neck sometimes. I am also noticing I sm
Getting loads of infections in that side- maybe just coincidence but I’ve now had sinusitis, gum inflammation and now a cyst in my eye, all in the affected side 🤷‍♀️
