My friend's 19 year old son has an illness which seems to be mystifying the medics and I wonder if anyone has any ideas?
About 2 years ago he was floored with severe pain in his upper stomach area, was very sick, admitted to intensive care for 2 weeks.
After tests his gall bladder was removed although the doctors were not convinced this was the problem. Every 2 months on average since then he has excrutiating pain in his stomach, spreading to his shoulders, and is very sick with green bile for about a week. The only thing which helps is to be admitted to hospital and dosed up with morphine. There is now a suggestion it is some form of pancreatitas but apparently to remove the pancreas is not a n option. He does not drink and follows a low fat diet, but every time he is in hospital he loses at least a stone in weight and the whole experience is making boh himand my friend upset and exhausted! Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could help please?

A possibility is a pancreatic enzyme deficiency, esp with gb removed. With no gb, he can't handle fats, hence low-fat diet, but he might need enzymes, because a body needs good fats for all sorts of functions.

I would consider a good nutritionist (not dietician), because he would perhaps need enzymes to handle essential fats for the overall wellbeing and/or support pancreas and he would definitely need suitable vitamin supplements.

My ds had this type of deficiency before we went gluten-free, not as severe, and he also had other symptoms of fat malabsorption. If he doesn't eat fats, he will be deficient in fat soluble vitamins, this will affect various organs and functions.

is he on bile salts to help break down the fats from food as they do what the gallbladder would be doing

the bile sounds like where acids are going staraight into intestine without being broken down first

also i heard Colestid is good to take if not taking already

and also not so much fat intake but heard watching your caloric intake helps also

hope they find some answers xx

if it doesnt make sence i apologise but gallbladder mixes with these acids before it goes into intestine where it mixes with food and breaks it down

no gallbladder then it is going straight into intestine where there may be no food causing the inflammation the tablets are supposed to help loads

i have heard that many people suffer such complications after gall bladder has been removed so maybe there could be a forum where some advise has been given good luck
