Thoughts on this mole?

Has been a flat mole, but recently became raised.
It’s on my face, smaller than a 5p piece. Noticed the changed maybe 4-6weeks ago, but no change or growth since.

Is this one I should book a GP appt for?

pic attached, may go under review!

It's it itchy? Has it always had the red marking near it?

WhatMe123 · 04/06/2025 20:38

I mean in theory any change should be checked so I guess yes you should get it checked as it has changed. Most are totally fine though

WhatMe123 · 04/06/2025 20:39

We're not doctors on her op so no one can say for sure it's fine so best follow nhs advice and get it checked

Whatsthatmole · 04/06/2025 20:39

Not itchy… and I don’t think it had the red mark near it. But I can’t be sure, I’ve never paid it much attention until it because raised!

Looking at the ABCDE of moles, I don’t think it meets the criteria. Which is my main reason for asking a second opinion. Not expecting anyone to diagnose me 😊

I have pale moles like this that seem to become raised in the summer and have not got them checked. The red marking in the moles bottom right corner may raise my eyebrow slightly...changes should be checked. Have you got any history?

Whatsthatmole · 04/06/2025 20:46

My DF had something removed from his face a while ago, but it was benign.

Other than being deathly pale and blonde (Scottish genes), no history!

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 04/06/2025 20:50

Scottish genes here as well! And I do have a history due to my colouring! I think I'd get it checked to be honest knowing it is likely benign but might be an early, superficial change worth catching before it gets ideas.

Whatsthatmole · 04/06/2025 20:52

Thanks for your help! I’ll book an appt!

I had a spot on my face and someone said to get it checked. Not prone to spots. My son kept asking me to get it checked.
Eventually I did it’s a basal cell cancer and had to be surgically removed and a precancerous removed from my arm.
get it checked they won’t judge you. I said I felt guilty for wasting their time but I wasn’t.
Can I add the surgeon was so gentle and the scar is amazing

Whatsthatmole · 04/06/2025 21:19

Thank you for sharing @bigbreakfastclub- when this first started it looked like a spot on top of the mole! So I will def head to the Drs!

Hope everything is OK now they have been removed!

Boots provide a service of mole screening. You book an appointment online at the nearest store to you that does it, they then scan your mole and send it off to the dermatologist. They then will give your results by text or phone call if they see anything to worry about. I had mine checked last week at 11am had a text 9am the next morning giving me the all clear. It’s also only £40! way cheaper than a dermatologist appointment and more accurate answer than a GP appointment. Hope it’s all ok OP.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 04/06/2025 22:15

Mine was also a basal cell, they are slow growing and I was told they don't spread BUT they do need dealing with. My understanding is that if it was more serious you would have likely seen changes in the last 6 weeks. I was given a cream for mine. Scar is non existent. It's much better to knock it on the head and get peace of mind again. Keep us posted!

NormasArse · 04/06/2025 22:20

I’m getting one seen by an NHS dermatologist, in hospital tomorrow. The process since going to the GP has been very quick.

That’s so quick! I was referred by nurse to medical illustration on Monday seen Thursday mid December 2024.
heard nothing so phoned hospital dermatology secretary, as GP said no results had been received.
I was told the nurse did not do a referral form therefore they did not know which GP to send results to.
they phoned me with a cancellation which I was able to take 6th March and had to have surgical removal. Thankfully they’re slow growing and do not spread but still need dealing with.
I would have happily paid Boots £40 had I known.

Just an update, sent the GP some pictures, they weren’t worried and said to keep an eye on it for 6 weeks!
