Issues with surgical wound

I’m losing my mind!

I had open umbilical hernia repair 3 weeks ago, the incision is half in my belly button. I had problems with it initially, so the hospital (private hospital mind) removed my steri strip, whacked a dressing on and sent me on my way. The next day I contacted my consultant who put me on antibiotics, which seemed to do the trick!

Finished my antibiotics and all was well until Monday morning when I noticed a slight opening in my wound. Contacted my consultant who didn’t reply, I then called the hospital yesterday and they again, looked at it, said they weren’t worried, dressed it and sent me on my way with a view to keep the dressing on until I see my consultant next week.

No more than 24hrs later, I’m noticing discolouration on the dressing, so I removed it but couldn’t see any signs of weeping and it felt dry within. Put a new one on and it’s been 3 hrs and more discolouration!

I don’t know if this is normal, no one seems to be able to tell me, I’m loathed to even go back to the hospital because I feel like I’m hitting my head on a brick wall now.

Are there any wound experts on here who could help?
My next stop would be my GP who didn’t help me initially when I said I had a hernia, denied its existence.

I try not to let it bother me but truth be told, I’m in a bit of a state with it, the antibiotics have stripped me of all my goodness too so I’m fighting other aches and pains.

Can you self refer to your local district nurse clinic? Or ask your GP to refer you?

Looks like my local is about 40 minutes away but it’s a great idea. I’m going to mention it when I see my GP. Thank you!
