And DS still hasn't had his pre-school booster - if I take him to get it done on Friday, when will immunity take effect?

And if he has been exposed to measles, will giving him the booster on top be too much for his system?

And, also, if he has been exposed, will his original MMR jab give him any immunity?

TIA

gosh I can't answer any of your questions and so hope somebody comes by soon who can. You could phone NHS direct and ask.

the second mmr protects some of the children that didnt get immunity from the first jab so your lo may already have immunity from the first jab they had.

from mmr the fact website:

After the first dose, between 5% and 10% of children are not protected against the diseases. After two doses of MMR, less than 1% are left unprotected

---------

I dont know how long it takes for immunity to take effect but the side effects for the measles part happen around 7-10 days after the jab.

I'd ring up your GP and ask for advice. If you don't think they will be any good try ringing up the PALS at your PCT, they may be able to get a public health specialist to advise you.

Thanks Seona and eehwah.

Feeling a bit gutted that DS MMR booster has been on my to do list for such a shamefully long time, and now am living in the middle of a new outbreak here in south east London.

Can't understand why were have such a low take-up rate here.

dont know whether youre into homeopathy or not but apparently my homeopath said there ar eremedies available which they giv eto your child when theres alocal outbreak which will boost their immunity naturally, think i may give it a go
