Severe sharp pain above left shoulder blade

Mhamai · 21/05/2008 15:57

I've been fine all day. I wasn't stetching or didn't make any sudden movements, in fact it's only come on since sitting at the computer. I've had frozen shoulder in the past but this has come out of nowhere and I'm in agony tbh

I've take 2 difene and some solpadene.

Has anyone experienced anything like this or any advice?

TIA

This may sound odd, but have you considered indigestion as a cause? I tend to get a pain through my left shoulder sometimes with indigestion (and I know someone who had an ongoing pain there which was linked to a stomach ulcer). It might sound odd, but there's a nerve called the Vagus nerve which goes past your stomach and up round your left shoulder before going to your brain, so messages can get confused!

i had a severe pain in my shoulder for a few years off an on, When I looked at my shoulder the end of my collar bone was sticking up more than the other side. Have you got anything like this. I kept being told I just have tortocollis - not sure if thats how it spelt and to take ibruprofen. but i think it was something else as eventually the raised bit dropped and I haven't had pain since. I used to do a physical and heavy job and know of one incident where I hurt this shoulder and it probably got resolved by some other physical activity. Have you wrenched yourself or lifted awkwardly today? i do know some people get similar things and never know why. heat helps too.

Trapped wind? Does it hurt more when you take a deep breath? Drink some warm water.

Piffle · 21/05/2008 16:32

rear of shoulder? could be trapped nerve

biglips · 21/05/2008 16:32

it also could be your bra might not fitted properly or the straps are on too tight

Christiania · 21/05/2008 16:33

Can be a sign of ectopic - don't suppose any chance of that?

mankyscotslass · 21/05/2008 16:33

I had bad shoulder pain after a csec, they said it was wind! I was in agony with it. Could it be that?

mankyscotslass · 21/05/2008 16:34

or ectopic ?

Mhamai · 21/05/2008 16:34

Yes I've been having really bad indegestion and heartburn recently, I would never have linked the two tbh. Although I haven't had any indestion or heartburn symptoms for over a week.

Well the pain has subsided thank God. The difene and solpadene have obviously kicked in. I'm not exagerating when I say, I literally couldn't move and more or less seized up when it first came on.

I just hope to God it doesent come back. i guess I'll have to change my diet. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Oh goodness, thanks everyone else for your replies. It's definatly not ectopic as I have the mirena coil fitted. Perhaps there might be a trapped nerve issue as I have suffered sciatica in the past so due have nerve trap issues. I am a complete disaster zone re my bra as I do have large norks and have been wearing ill fitting bras lately.

I just got a at the suddeness onset of pain.

ectopic pain is tip of shoulder and so severe you'd not be typing.... it also indicates internal bleeding so you'd be quite poorly at that point, I sure was!
I suffer trapped nerves too. very bad up to neck. hows your neck movement
try chin to chest chin to ceiling
ear to shoulder side to side movement

Mhamai · 21/05/2008 18:19

Thanks piffle. The pain is back again but I'm not able to take anything else for at least two hrs. I'm going to fill a hot water bottle and see if that helps. I have no problem moving my neck. It sounds daft but when I put my habd over my shoulder and rotate it. I can feel the only thing I can describe as a rippling feeling, like something is out of place that isn't in the other shoulder. A knotted muscle perhap? It's so bloody sore, I don't do pain!

Sorry about your ectopic pregnancy.

Oh shit, I have just realised that ectopic pain may not mean ectopic pregnancy. Sorry if I've got it wrong.

I know this is probably not the case but please read this

Just mirena coil makes it more likely that if you do conceive, it will be ectopic
I think...?

How are you this am?
