Emergency MMR - is it worth it?

DS1 (nearly 4) hasn't had MMR here in Spain as I wasn't sure. Herd immunity here is very high as usually nobody questions these things. Problem is that we are visiting London this weekend and there has been an outbreak of measles at my brothers school (half brothers 9 and 14) which my DS would love to visit. No time for NHS so have organised a private vaccine for the morning. Will be it be effective straight away - we leave on Friday morning. Will it be owrth al the effort and cost and screaming on his part (how the hell do you keep a 4 y-o calm????!!!)

No idea about speed of effectiveness, but to keep him calm, bribe with sweets.

Don't know about the immunity issues but I'd do it too in those circumstances. Unless he can have the separate measles vaccine? It's available here in France.

Sweets are good - take some with you, get them out just as the needle is about to go in... Might stop the screaming faster!

MMR often causes a bit of a fever about 10 days later so be prepared.
