This is a weird one but I need a rational answer

So after I had my DD almost 3 years ago, I experienced something really weird that I’ve thought about from time to time but still creeps me tf out.

I must have only been a couple of weeks post partum but I remember having the worst stomach pains, like fetal position on the bathroom floor. I’d had a c section and we were going to ring 111, but first I went to the toilet. I did a wee - nothing sinister, the pain then miraculously passed.

But after I wiped I looked down, and there on the tissue paper was a huge, dead crane fly. Now.. tell me I did not somehow pass that crane fly, that it was not in my body 😂😂 it was dead on the tissue before wiping right? Except I would’ve noticed that wouldn’t I?! If it did come out of me, how did it get there?

Still pretty horrified to this day and looking for a reasonable explanation.

You can get really bad trapped wind after a c section thought not sure about 2 weeks later. No help on the insect front I'm afraid!

Serene135 · 28/05/2025 22:32

Right that’s enough internet for me for today

Generationgame9 · 28/05/2025 22:34

Hahaha I’m sorry 😂

You cannot possibly have given birth to a crane fly. Surely?

FrodoBiggins · 28/05/2025 22:42

What in the Franz Kafka

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 28/05/2025 22:42

You did not have a crane fly in you.

You did not notice it on the tissue because of the pain. Your mind was on other things.

You can put this worry aside.

BristolDolly22 · 28/05/2025 22:43

Do you think it somehow flew in whilst you were having your C-section?
surely that can’t happen in an OR??

trapped wind or gallstone pain can go from agonising to completely better like that.

Generationgame9 · 28/05/2025 22:44

DH’s theory is that during my c section it somehow got inside me without them knowing 😂

Thank you, @NomNomNominativeDeterminism - the rational answer I have always wanted.

Crane fly was in the loo roll. Maybe it had been sitting on there and someone rolled it back over, or it was on the back and so you didn’t notice. It wasn’t inside you,

Whiteflowerscreed · 28/05/2025 22:46

I’ve just had my third c section and definitely get these huge cramps in womb. And also I get muscle spasms in my bladder and back passage that are short lived but very painful.

the fly didn’t come out of you

Generationgame9 · 28/05/2025 22:47

Thank you, wise people of mumsnet. I will actually sleep easier tonight.

Bless you @Generationgame9 . Sleep well.

Congrats on baby crane fly Flowers

MammaDia · 28/05/2025 23:07

My MIL was eating a croissant once and a fly buzzed near her plate. She was convinced it had flown out of the croissant and refused to eat any more of it. It had been baked in apparently.

I tried to explain the fly wouldn't have survived a) that long and b) the baking process but critical thinking is not her strong point.

This reminds me of that! Except you were PP and in pain so I totally see why you were confused, bless you.

Karmacamelia · 28/05/2025 23:14

I had this huge pain too after a c section, came from nowhere, the biggest cramp/ screwdriver- twisting- in - my - belly feeling, it was remaining bits of placenta or something like that shedding or pushing itself out, the crane fly was probably always on that bit of paper and not inside you😊

Mansionscoldandgrey · 28/05/2025 23:17

Are you an old lady?
Did you swallow the fly?

That is a horrific story! But I do believe that it was on the loo roll before you wiped, still a bit minging but fine! Or….could you have even hallucinated?
ps wind from c section is horrendous! I’d bet it was that xx

TwelfthOfNever · 28/05/2025 23:38

I've found crane flies in the loo roll twice, it's definitely a thing they'll do!

Can confirm. Trapped wind after my C-section was off the scale pain, literal screaming hell.

This

You had trapped wind from the CS. I've been there, it was the most painful bit of CS recovery.
The crane fly was already in the bathroom.
