Weird skin sensation in one side of my torso

Has anyone had this? I thought at first it was my bra strap irritating my side but it’s changed to a prickly sensitive patch on my side. There’s no rash or swelling but it almost feels how I imagine a mild case of shingles would feel-….not that I’ve ever had shingles!
im 44 could this be hormone related? Has anyone else experienced this?

Sounds neurological. It could be nerve pain, which has many causes. How long have you had this ?

Yes, turned out it was shingles! Took a few days to get going but ow! Get to the doctors, get the pills.

Oh I hope not! Did the tingling start before the rash? I’ve had the tingling for about 2 days now

It can take up to 5 days for the rash to appear.

Pootles34 · 26/05/2025 10:30

Drs asap, the medication works better then sooner you take it if it is shingles.

Didn’t actually get a rash, just the tingling turned into nettles, then proper zaps like electricity.

I’ve had this since last Wednesday, went to doctor on Friday but as there was no rash they wouldn’t prescribe anti-viral medication. The back pain was like a muscle cramping out and all classic signs of shingles but with no rash. However it started to ease and now it’s just the tingling, prickly feeling 🤷‍♀️ and no rash has appeared

Also have you recently been ill? I had a throat infection the weekend beforehand and apparently it’s common for shingles to appear after an illness

Yes I have - had 2 courses if antibiotics over the past month. Maybe I’m quite run down.

The tingling definitely starts before the rash with Shingles. I think pharmacies can prescribe antivirals for Shingles now as one of the conditions they can treat under the NHS Pharmacy First scheme. There is a limited time window after start of symptoms for them to be effective.

TheOliveFinch · 26/05/2025 21:11

That is how shingles started for me, rash started to appear a few days later

Moveonward · 26/05/2025 21:17

Thanks everyone. This is day 3 of the tingling I think and no sign of a rash yet but I do feel a bit under the weather today. If it’s still the same tomorrow I’ll get in touch with my GP

I got shingles a week after I began a chest infection. I thought I had a bacon slicer inside my bum cheeks.
