Dressing stuck to open wound/scrape on knee.

My son fell and scraped his knee in school. It’s quite a big scrap which took all the skin off. I changed the plaster on it for 2 days and on the third ran out and used plasters from a different pack. The white absorbent part of the plaster has stuck to the open wound and nothing will get it off. I’ve tried soaking in warm water, Vaseline on top- it’s stuck. I went to the pharmacy- they said he’d have to see a nurse and to call 111. I called and a dr advised that if I ‘was strong enough’ I could run saline water over it and rip it off and that if I couldn’t do it I should take him to A&E.
I’m going to try get him seen tomorrow as ripping it off just seemed wrong. Has anyone else had something like this happen and if so what was the solution?

I would try soaking it again. I’ve had to leave my eldest in the bath for a good while in the past before a dressing would come off.

Soak it in- that’s what a nurse would do

sit him in the bath

Blister plaster over the top and leave it be. It'll either come off with the blister plaster or with the scab in a few days time.

A good half an hour's soak in the bath and it should come off easier.
