Tooth extraction day 7

Lottiep90 · 25/05/2025 19:03

Hi can anyone tell me if this is normal? Day 7 after tooth extraction and have this white in the extraction site? I have had chicken for my tea tonight but unsure if that’s what it is as I’ve brushed and done a salt water rinse and it’s still there…

please help!

It could be a bit of bone working it's way out, that would be normal

I was going to suggest this. I just learnt about in on a thread on MN yesterday. You would think dentists would actually tell people about it.

Get a syringe full of warm salt water and irrigate the socket, see if that clears it. It’s probably food debris OP. There is significant plaque on all the teeth in front of the healing socket specifically at all the gum margins. Get on to that OP, google the modified bass technique and get that incorporated into your daily oral health routine going forward.

Thank you. I admit I’ve been scared to brush them too vigorously, I had one the other side of my mouth removed 2 weeks ago too so have been very paranoid of brushing either extraction site or around it too hard in case I sleep and catch it 🤦🏻‍♀️ I hate this 😂😂

I've had a couple of teeth out and this Looks perfectly normal. Isn't it called granulation tissue?

After 7 days you are near the end of the danger period for dry socket. Keep up the salt water rinses a few more daysand I'm sure you'll be fine.

willowbuffytara · 25/05/2025 20:52

Are you flossing? As there’s a lot of stuff around your other teeth

BobbyBiscuits · 25/05/2025 20:56

If it was dry socket or infection it would be swollen and very sore. So it's probably just debris. Or part of the bone. Just keep salt water rinsing and use chlorhexidine mouthwash.

Nextdoormat · 25/05/2025 21:01

I would see you dentist on Tuesday. I always get dry socket after an extraction, it is never that swollen or painful, the dentist always says it won't be as I would be climbing the walls with pain, but it always turns out it is. Best to check.

Thank you, I have the odd twinge of pain but nothing unbearable more the nose ache. I have been salt rinsing several time a day x

The white bits seem to have gone overnight, just brushed my other teeth and done a salt rinse, still a bit of gum soreness/jaw ache but nothing severe.. does this look right?

Yes - it will have been a bone fragment. I had some coming up after a molar extraction. Luckily the dentist had told me to expect it, so I knew what it was!

Thank you! I’d never heard of it so assumed something was really wrong 😂 did you still have some pain after a week? My jaw/gum is still pretty achey and uncomfortable 🙄 and is it normal for the socket to just be all pink like it is now?

Oh god I hope so! Off on a break with the kids today for four days and need it to feel better! I’m not sure it’s even a pain as such more sensitivity and the odd niggle but it’s really annoying and uncomfortable and I’ve had enough of it 😂 going to get something stronger than paracetamol and ibuprofen on the way to take and hope that helps!

Get some corsodyl gel. That's really good. And some codeine based pain killers. I hope it gets better soon. Enjoy your break with the kids. If you can rest and relax a bit it will help the healing process. X

Thank you, with the gel does it just go on the gum rather than the extraction site or? I’ve been taking paramol but may try co codamol to see if that works better. About to stop at Tesco to see what I can get hold of! X

I think you can put the gel around the site, on the gums, maybe not directly on the wound? I'm not 100% sure on that though. I guess pharmacies are all shut today? X

My local independent pharmacy was shut but I’m hoping tesco pharmacy may be open, if not I’ll have to see what I can find on the shelves! Wish me luck 🤦🏻‍♀️😂
