Do I need emergency contraception?

I cannot believe I'm asking this. I'm 48 and have been on Desogestrel for a few years.
I take my pill around 9/10pm on and evening. I've just gone to take one and I didn't take one last night, I also
had intercourse last night.

What do I do? I wouldn't be able to get emergency contraception until tomorrow.

Also I've taken the pill for Friday that I missed. Do I take the pill for today as well now at the same time?

You wouldn't of been protected but it would be highly unlikely at 48 your pregnant however if you want the peace of mind you can take the morning after pill upto 5 days later. I would talk to a pharmacist if your concerned

Don't double up on pills just take one tonight and carry on as normal and use a condom for the next 48 hrs

I know the likelihood of pregnancy at 48 is very unlikely I'm just worried I'll be that one.
I've taken Fridays pill now when do I take the one for Saturday? Do I just leave it now and carry taking the pill at the usual time?

I can't believe I've got to this age and never had this problem before.

Leave it now and take as normal so you take the next one tomorrow night. If your concerned have a chat with the pharmacist they will help you

Ffstoooldforthis · 24/05/2025 22:09

So I basically skip a pill altogether now.

Thankyou. I feel so stupid not knowing this at my age.

Don't feel stupid if you've never been in the situation before you're not going to know. It might me worth putting a reminder on your phone to take your pill. I always do this otherwise I'd never remember

I literally never have forgotten to take it before. Things are stress full at home right now and that's why it has just gone clean out of my head.

It says in the instructions what to do if you miss a pill. Have you got the leaflet? If not youll be able to find it online. It normally says when to double up and when to skip it.

id say you’d be ‘unfortunate’ to get pregnant at 48 and taking the pill (even if you’re not taking it perfectly) so I’d probably risk it, but obviously depends how much of a risk that would be for you.

It would be very unfortunate- 2 teens who are pretty much adults now.

I'm going to take the chance as I know getting pregnant at 48 is not unlikely but not high risk either. I take my pill religiously - aside from missing it on Friday. I'm going to carry on taking as normal now apart from having one missed pill. Then use condoms if necessary in the next 7 days.
