Referral processing

9 days ago I took my 4 year old to the GP and it was decided a referral was needed to a specialist dept.

I didn’t hear anything and having always had the referral confirmation ping through later the same day, I called back a few days later to ask if it had been done. I was advised that it would be but not yet, due to doctors workload. It was “on the list.”

Anyway, as mentioned it’s now been 9 days. Is this standard now?

If it not an urgent referral they may be waiting until their admin session, as their other sessions are focusing on seeing patients. or it may be that the specialist department is currently not accepting new referrals -this can happen.
The referral ping, is that via your app, and has been for your referrals, or text from the surgery? Just wondering if you are proxy for DS on the app.
By all means call again Wednesday (not Tuesday, it’s always horrendous n Tuesday after a bank holiday). No one can say what’s standard as surgeries doing, and hospitals accepting, referrals aren’t the same in all areas.

I’ve always had a text saying I’ve been referred and if I haven’t heard then to call by X. Saying that, I think they all been urgent historically.
