Thyroid lump suddenly painful

Hi

I have a partially cystic nodule on my thyroid. I had it checked and aspirated about a year ago. Results were benign but the swelling returned almost straight away (I was told this would probably happen). I’m due another check up in about a month, but today the lump is bigger and painful. It’s the same kind of pain as a swollen gland but definitely the lump hurting. It hurts more when I swallow and my ear on the same side hurts a bit too.
Aaaanyway… I just wondered whether anyone knows whether this is anything to worry about. Is it ok to just wait and see? It’s not massively bigger but noticeably. My thyroid bloods have always been normal, not taking any meds.
Thank you!

No, not OK to wait and see. Very unlikely to be cancerous but that little gland in your neck is very important so see your GP or endocrinologist as soon as you can (it's not an A&E situation).

Thank you for replying. Typically it’s a Friday night so can’t speak to my GP until next week. If it’s still feeling sore and bigger on Monday I guess I should call them. Hopefully it will settle down and can wait until my check up next month. It’s just never been actually painful before, so am a bit worried it’s bleeding or something…
