Coronectomy complications

I had a coronectomy of my lower 2 wisdom teeth last Tuesday and I'm really struggling with the recovery.

I did go back to the hospital on Monday as the pain was so bad. I can barely open my mouth, so the dentist struggled to see what was going on, but she suspected an infection so gave me antibiotics. I've been taking the max recommended dose of Ibuprofen and Paracetamol ever since the operation. I'm still in a considerable amount of pain and it seems to get worse on a night. I've been doing the salt water rinses 6 times a day and using corsodyl mouthwash morning and night. The area feels less inflamed and my face looks less swollen, so hopefully the infection is clearing.

I can't eat properly as I can't open my mouth to fit food in! I've been having a few spoonfuls of soup or watered down mashed veg, yogurts, smoothies and protein shakes, but the liquid diet coupled with the antibiotics is giving me an upset stomach. I tried eating a chicken nugget with a couple of fries earlier and my jaw was aching really badly afterwards and this was an hour after I'd taken 2 Ibuprofen.

I'm not normally a wimp when it comes to being ill or in pain, but this procedure has really floored me and I'm hoping someone has been though similar and can reassure me it will get easier soon. The dentist did say to get in touch in a week if I'm still struggling to open my mouth. I'm thinking of calling them last thing on Friday unless I'm feeling much better tomorrow. I don't want to seem impatient as I realise they'll be some pain after surgery, I would have expected to be over the worst of it by now though.

I would definitely contact your dentist tomorrow and don’t leave it until Friday.

Why would you wait until Friday? Dental infection can cause permanent heart disease. You deserve to feel better than this.

The course of antibiotics is due to finish on Friday, so I thought they would want me to finish those before seeing me again. I'll call tomorrow and try to get seen before the weekend. When I called the hospital last Saturday and explained my symptoms to the consultant they told me pain was to be expected and to go in on the Monday, so she made me think this level of pain is normal. Thankyou for reassuring me I'm right to get seen again.
