What could be wrong with me? (long and prob TMI, sorry)

For the past 8 days I have been suffering from the following symptoms: bloated stomach, gassiness, mild lower abdominal pain (nagging and a bit crampy, not severe), increasing nausea (today is pretty bad), extreme tiredness, lower back ache and a kind of pre-menstrual 'swollen' feeling down below (sorry tmi).
I really thought I must be pregnant (we are trying at the mo), as all of the symptoms matched up, but did a pregnancy test today and got a negative result.

I am now really worried about what else could be wrong with me. The other explanations I had thought of - stomach upset or period pains - don't make sense now that it has been going on for over a week.

(More TMI coming I'm afraid) I was already a bit concerned as for a while I have had quite a bit of discomfort with bowel movements and some bleeding too. Now I'm panicking that it could all point to something serious.

Not sure why I'm posting really, I'm just working myself up into a state and thought writing it down might put it into perspective. I know I should see my GP but I feel like the symptoms are all too vague to make it worthwhile.

Thanks for getting this far!

The bowel bleeding you're getting - is the blood fresh and red? If so, it's not a big problem (assuming there's not loads of it) - it's a fissure or bleeding piles.

Are you constipated? Sounds like a tummy bug anyway ...

Do see your GP - I promise they won't think you're being silly. Lay out all these symptoms and get yourself sorted!

VVVQVsSockPuppet · 20/05/2008 20:07

Could be a grumbling appendix. Worth a trip to the gp all the same.

mylovelymonster · 20/05/2008 20:09

Do see your GP and give extensive list of all symptoms (which can be vague at the best of times)
Do go x

Sounds very much like you have irritable bowel syndrome to me. It's possible you have contracted a gastric bug which is simmering under and causing inflammation in your bowel. The bleeding is most likely to be piles or fissures (cracks in the anal wall).

There are a few nasty gastric viruses doing the rounds at the mo. I was hospitalised with one last week (I'm very pregnant and got dehydrated). It started with a week or so of nausea/feeling bloated.

You can try cutting out solid food for a day and just drinking lots and that may settle it. Or just stick to bland food to avoid irritating the gut.

Or drink peppermint tea. That may help.

Otherwise my dear it's off to the GP with you. But other than having a look at the bleeding bum side of things, they may not be able to do much to help.

a bit constipated and trapped wind maybe ?

ThingOne · 20/05/2008 20:43

Go to your GP. Take this list of symptons with you so you don't forget anything.

Thanks everyone - sorry for disappearing after posting, I was at work! Yes the blood is bright red, I did think it might be the piles I had during and after having ds1 & 2 resurfacing again.
Some really useful suggestions here - I will def print off the list of symptoms to take to my GP, otherwise I'm guaranteed to forget some or feel too embarassed to list them all.
I might actually try to get an appointment tomorrow (takes deep breath...).
x

Ask for some proctosedyl suppositories. I would say they were the dogs nuts were it not a bad analogy. They are a very effective pile treatment - work in about five days and they also soften stools to stop you straining and making the problem worse.

Thanks whomovedmychocolate
