What's it like? Awful? Does it take a long time?

I will be calling the hospital later with questions but they just sent me an appt for the treatment this Friday. No explanation etc

ooh, don't know but wonder.

I've had low iron too, felt so much better once I started taking iron.

Yours must be very low....

I have had other infusions

An infusion per se is just a very slow injection and doesn't hurt

No idea about the iron bit tho

my mum and a good friend have both had iron infusions. They were in hospital for a couple of hours. My mum felt fab afterwards but friend felt a bit woozy for the rest of the day.

I haven't, but my iron levels were so low after giving birth and haemoraging(spelled wrong I'm sure), passing out etc, that I ended up having a blood transfusion...felt so much better, and so quickly too! the whites of my eyes positively glowed!

I recently had three units of blood for anaemia. It was fine. I wasn't even woozy. Each unit was given over 1 - 2 hours. Don't know about iron per se but the blood was a straightforward procedure.

I have had 1 pint a week for 3 weeks of a iron replacement (think it began with a 'v').
Had a canular inserted into my hand and was hooked up to a bag. took 1 - 2 hours to run through but had no problems with it

I have had iron infusions for anaemia- three a week every three months. I had it in my GP's surgery, it took half an hour each time and I could go home straight after. Not awful at all.

Thanks everyone

I had iron infusions when I was pregnant with DS2, due to having an HB level of 6.2!!

I had 3 infusions a week for 2 weeks and then the same again 2 months later. I had a cannula put into the back of my hand and it took 1-2 hours each time, I read magazines whilst receiving it and drove home afterwards.

Where my HB levels were so low to begin with, by the end of the 2nd week I felt like I was flying

I had 3 of these after I had dd last August. I had a drip in a vein in my arm, mine was pretty quick - only 30 mins or so. Although on the last one the nurse couldn't get a good vein so dripped the stuff into me in 3 mins flat in case the line fell out of my arm!

It didn't hurt at all. And after the second one, I felt bloody great. I would highly recommend them!
