This started as a tiny spot this morning and now looks like this, it burns and feels like sunburn and the pain goes up my arm into my armpit but it’s seems bizarre it’s just one spot I’ve been to the pharmacy and they say it’s suspected shingles and have given me the antiviral mi

My mosquito bites do that, but I'm allergic to them, so not unexpected.

PoopingAllTheWay · 13/05/2025 20:22

Doesn't look like shingles

Satisfiedkitty · 13/05/2025 20:22

Doesn't look like shingles to me. I'd say an insect bite as well.

I had shingles on my back, patch of small very itchy spots. Much smaller than that one.

PoopingAllTheWay · 13/05/2025 20:22

Spider bite of some sort?

MargotB · 13/05/2025 20:22

No, it doesn't look like Shingles.

gamerchick · 13/05/2025 20:23

Looks like you've been bitten by something to me OP.

gamerchick · 13/05/2025 20:23

Draw a line around the red bit.

iwhaldh · 13/05/2025 20:23

Why has the pharmacy given me antivirals for it ?

WonderingWanda · 13/05/2025 20:24

I think more likely a bit with that red swelling around it. Is there any itching? Shingles blisters are usually a little more yellowy in colour and a bit flatter.

fourelementary · 13/05/2025 20:24

Not like any shingles rash I have ever seen. Deffo a bite more likely.

Oneearringlost · 13/05/2025 20:24

It doesn't look like it to me, at all. A bite, maybe?

iwhaldh · 13/05/2025 20:24

Not itchy it feels very tingly and when my clothes brush up against it it feels sun burnt the whole area not just the spot

OP posts:
iwhaldh · 13/05/2025 20:25

probably should mention I’ve been home quite unwell wi th my two kids who have had chickenpox this week to

Oneearringlost · 13/05/2025 20:27

Hmm, well the symptoms sound Shingly, but you can't get Shingles from chicken Pox, it's the other way round...

iwhaldh · 13/05/2025 20:27

Yeah I thought that to

OP posts:
bluedelphinium · 13/05/2025 20:29

I think it could (sorry, I can't work see what part of you that is on my phone screen!!). They're on one side (very very rare it would be both), start with blisters, maybe just one blister to start, and follow what are called the dermatomes of the body. These dermatomes follow the spinal nerves, basically. If it goes up the arm and into the armpit it sounds like the infection started in C8 dermatome which comes off the vertebrae in your neck.

tipsyraven · 13/05/2025 20:31

It doesn’t look like shingles to me at this stage.

iwhaldh · 13/05/2025 20:32

It’s just above my elbow and the pain is up my arm into the armpit very tender to touch, and it’s just on the one side its spread significantly from this morning it was just a little blister I can’t open my arm up as it feels very burnt and tingly and hurts when anything touches the area, I just thought if it was shingles I would be a lot more ill, I have a very bad headache and am tired just worrying as I don’t want to take time of work if it’s not and don’t want to go in if it is as I work with people who are vunerable x

OP posts:
iwhaldh · 13/05/2025 20:33

If it is will others blisters come up and what’s the timeline this started this morning

OP posts:
Runninghappy · 13/05/2025 20:33

I have shingles at the moment and looks nothing like that! It’s a line of blisters with a red rash around it.

rainbowhairchalk · 13/05/2025 20:45

Looks like a spider bite to me, not very shingly

iwhaldh · 13/05/2025 20:47

Thanks for all the replies I just wish the pharmacy didn’t say shingles it’s worried me

OP posts:
GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 13/05/2025 21:10

It may be. Mine started with one small spot that I thought was a bite, it had multiplied to 3 or 4 in a little cluster over the next couple of days, and then spread from my center stomach to center back over the next 5 days ish. It was absolute agony, and felt like burning. I couldn't have any clothes or anything touching me.

I used the spray Virasoothe which did help slightly.

Mynewnameis · 13/05/2025 21:12

I wouod also say spider bite. Might need antibiotics not anti viral.
Nothing like shingles I've seen on my child.
