Pericarditis?

I've already contacted NHS Direct and am waiting for a call from a Dr.

Does this sound like pericarditis?

I woke up with a sharp stabbing pain under the left breast that is painful when lying down and hurts around the shoulder blade.

I have been experiencing breathlessness and fatigue for months and am due to do an x ray in a few weeks.

I've taken two paracetamol but it hasn't made any difference. No fever, not clammy, not weak, no other symptoms.

Have you had a virus or bug at all?

Does it improve if you lean forward?

DH was diagnosed with this recently and said it felt literally like pain around his heart. No fever or clamminess in his case, just the pain. He had had a bit of a cold and it did improve with leaning forward.

He hadn’t had breathlessness or fatigue though, I don’t know if that fits pericarditis or points to something else?

Hope you get it properly checked out soon

More likely muscular and unrelated to the fatigue.

But you do need to get it checked out, just in case.

Definitely get it checked out but sounds more like costochondritis to me, with fatigue as a separate issue but you've done the right thing ringing for advice.

Thanks everyone. I've spoken to the Dr and the pain has greatly subsided.
