Bile acid malabsorption fecal test

I finally saw the GP yesterday about what I believe to be bile acid malabsorption. They have asked me to do a FIT test and also a sample for them to test for bile. I’ve been quite bad for a week or so and took buscopan which has now caused constipation. I’m wondering if I should wait until I’m clear of that and to provide a sample when I am sure I’m having bile issues. Sometimes my bowel movement is quite yellow when things are bad. I’m pretty sure it is bile acid malabsorption but want the best chance of a positive test.

Anyone else had this test and it be positive?

I have this and the only test I had was the sehcat scan in the hospital.

Can I ask what made your symptoms worse? And do you have treatment now?

I’ve had similar symptoms and was also convinced it was bile acid malabsorption for a while. For me, things got worse after certain foods, especially high-fat meals, and stress seemed to play a role, too. I eventually got referred for a SeHCAT scan, which confirmed it, and now I’m on treatment that’s made a big difference. Hope you get some clear answers soon!

Eating high amounts of fat/greasy food, going out to restaurants was always tricky and at times I would eat a big meal and immediately need the toilet after. I am now taking colestyramine(think that's how you spell it) I was taking it once a day, but now I just need it when it flares up, it's really helped.
