Insomia, please help, it's been years of it, cannot take it any longer

Could anyone please help me? My mum has been suffering from insomia for years, however, it is becoming so serious now that she just doesn't sleep for days.
She is not the same woman she used to be, so full of energy, she cannot take anymore. I am desperate to help her.
She's gone to the doctor, he gave her some tablets, if she takes one she sleeps that night but the following day she feels completely spaced out, so she really doesn't want to take them.
She has also taken MELATONEX but this has no effect on her at all.

Does anyone have any experience with this?
thanks!

How awful for her. has she tried a more natural route? Hypnotherapy, accupuncture?Massage?

It sounds awful

OneLieIn · 19/05/2008 19:15

Sorry, Tiny, can't help. Hope it improves (((((hug))))

TinySocks · 19/05/2008 19:20

thanks for the replies ladies. It really is awful, honestly it is like torture.
She hasn't tried hypnotherapy, has it helped someone you know tictacto?
She doesn't really have spare cash so going for alternative therapies might be out of her means, but if it really works I could give her a hand.
she is a lovely lady!

Can she ask for referral to a sleep clinic? There is one at Papworth Hospital and I think they take patients from around the UK. I know a doctor who works there and they deal with all sorts of sleep issues.

Saker · 19/05/2008 19:25

There is some information about Papworth here.

TinySocks · 19/05/2008 19:51

oh thanks Saker. She doesn't live in the UK, but maybe we could pay for her to go to this sleep clinic.
I will contact them and ask details.
thanks so much.
