Has anyone had a capsule endoscopy?

I’ve been putting off seeing a Doctor because I’m terrified I might need a camera investigation. I just couldn’t cope with it. I have anxiety problems. I was wondering if the NHS do capsule endoscopy investigations? Has anyone had one? What was your experience?

Ive been having bowel issues, possibly caused by bile malabsorption. Things haven’t been right in that department for around 18 months (gallbladder removed 3 years ago) I should have seen someone sooner. I go from very urgent desperate need to use the loo to being constipated in the same day sometimes. Bowel movements sometimes yellow. Lots of wind, bloating and discomfort. Walking seems to make it worse and it’s a nightmare going out. Hopefully I just need some pills.

I had a capsule endoscopy a few years ago - it was fine - the only problems I had was getting it started as they couldn't find the password for the assigned computer (!) and then telling me if they couldn't start within next half hour they would have to reschedule me....

Swallowing it was fine (and I'm rubbish at taking tablets) , I just went shopping and had a light lunch and generally pottered around the town nearest hospital ( was a distance from my home)

I still have the capsule

Have you been referred yet ?
There normally has to be a good reason for them not to go down the camera route but the unit will talk to you about it on the phone

No I haven’t even spoken to the Doctor yet. Was there a reason you had the capsule rather than the camera down your throat or up your bottom?

Are you on medication for your bile acid malabsorption? Are you under gastro dept?

I have this due to not having a gall bladder, and had a sehcat scan to diagnose. This just involved swallowing a tablet, then having a scan. I am on binders which help with my symptoms. Easiest test I've ever had!

My son had a capsule endoscopy many years ago due to having crohns. His was to find out if his crohns was in his small bowel [ it was ]. Normal scopes can't reach to the small bowel.

Capsule endoscopies aren't the first port of call to diagnose, they will usually go for normal scopes first to rule out other things, then progress to other things to see what the problem is.

My capsule endoscopy was after I had a standard endoscopy and colonoscopy
