Anyone else suffer with this?

Every few weeks I wake up in the night feeling hot and sweaty and my stomach gurgling. I then have just one or maybe two bouts of diarrhoea. No sickness, no pain. Just feeling uncomfortable. I then feel shattered the next day. There seems to be no pattern. Each time it happens I’ve eaten different things. It doesn’t seem to happen to anyone else in the family so I don’t think it’s a bug. And it seems to only happen at night. Feel silly going to the doctors because apart from being annoying and uncomfortable it’s not causing me too much bother. Does anyone else suffer with this? I am perimenopausal and so wondering if it’s just yet another symptom we have to put up with!

I had this for about a week, waking up with stomach cramps and then diarrhea. Gave a stool sample, nothing came back.

But this was consistently for a week not just random.

Have you recently started any new medication?

Keep a food diary to see if there's a pattern. IME food tolerance altered in peri. Also fatty food?

No, no new medication. It’s a strange one as I go weeks without it happening and it normally only lasts one night.

Nothing outrageously fatty. Chicken fajitas that were spicier than we normally have them but nothing too bad. It’s also a meal that I’ve had recently without waking up with cramps.

If you jot down what you've eaten (even including type of cooking oil, spices and additives if it's a ready meal) and drunk all day and at what time after you've been ill each time you might see a pattern. The fact it's only every few weeks does maybe suggest there's a trigger?

I have coeliac disease and used to suffer like this, it got more and more frequent even with cutting out gluten. I followed the formal diet with a dietician, when introducing new foods I found I was triggered lactose, fructose, tomatoes and peppers. Since I cut these out it’s never happened once. The feeling the next day was awful, I used to feel like a wrung out rag. I would try keeping a food diary to see what’s triggering it, you might be having different meals but with similar components.

Any connection to your menstrual cycle? I didn't have exactly your symptoms but I always woke up sweaty before period started and I did develop digestive/ibs type symptoms peri/post meno.
